Great thanks to David Catmull (firstname.lastname@example.org) who sent me the crucial directory-resolving code. Without it, this plug-in would not work. David is an author of some interesting contextual menu plug-ins (check http://www.dathorc.com/).
What is this?
“Internet Location CM” is a Contextual Menu plug-in which helps managing URLs.
It can perform two operations:
— creating a new Internet Location file with URL in clipboard,
— copying an URL from Internet Location file to clipboard.
— Recognition of URLs without specified protocol:
Why did I write it?
Well, I am a big fan of Internet Location files. Usually I am dragging an URL from some text onto the desktop and the Internet Location file is created by Finder automatically. But this technique sometimes does not work. Dragging a link from Netscape to the desktop starts a file transfer so I often used “Copy this Link Location” feature, then pasted the URL into “Note Pad”, then dragged it to the desktop. I am too lazy for so many operations! Now I still use “Copy this Link Location” in Netscape but then I control-click on the desktop and choose “New HTTP Location with Clipboard” and the required file is created.
There are some applications that do not support drag and drop so this plug-in also helps me in these situations.
